App Store Refund Denied??

I am baffled by the app store policies on denying refunds. I got a Skype monthly subscription by mistake, almost immediately noticing it was not useful for what I needed. Cancelled it no later than 10 minutes and asked for a refund and got no for an answer.

I find it so crazy I can go to any small-medium sized business and will get a refund for something I just bought, but Apple one of the biggest companies in the world and that prides itself on quality customer service has a policy of all sales are final regarding their app store.

I even tried calling a customer service number to find the reason such a basic claim could be denied, but their answer was it is Apple’s decision and all sales are final.

Shocking.

The people responding on this support forum are users like you. We have no special access to Apple information or your accounts, so unfortunately all we can do is guide you to the information Apple does provide. Apple, however, does not have much on its criteria for refusing refunds. Here are two sections from Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions - Legal - Apple Media Services - Apple

- "All Transactions are final."

I understand this as meaning Apple is starting from a point where any refund is considered an exception. Apple may provide a refund but can also simply say no without having to provide a reason. I understand this can be frustrating but by using the service you agree to the terms.

- "From time to time, Apple may suspend or cancel payment or refuse a refund request if we find evidence of fraud, abuse, or unlawful or other manipulative behavior that entitles Apple to a corresponding counterclaim." Remember that Apple has no way of removing a purchase from your device. They have to trust you are being honest when asking for a refund. It may be certain refund requests might be considered suspicious.

You can see if the terms are different for where you live by clicking on this link Legal - Apple Media Services - Apple select your location and then your language.

If you feel you want to discuss a refund request, try to contact an Apple representative using a telephone or chat request.

If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

You cannot make a purchase by mistake. You need to double click the side button with the amount showing on the screen followed by verifications using Face ID/Passcode. That is an intentional action. It is true that all transactions in the App Store are final and in some cases Apple may offer a compassionate refund, but it should never be expected.

It is also true that some apps offer a free trial to see if you would like the service and others do not. You cannot make every purchase a free trial if that app does not offer it.

Those are the rules if you want to use the App Store. It's up to you.

I specified my mistake was getting a subscription and noticing immediately it did not satisfy my needs. I did not say I purchased by double clicking erroneously.

I also understand those are the rules, what I am saying is I find those rules from a company of Apple’s stature to be extremely harsh. Everyone makes mistakes and you can get a refund in the US for the most basic thing even in the smallest businesses. Obviously I have to accept the rules, what else can I do, you need the app store if you have an iphone. However I feel my critique is completely valid, and the least Apple should provide is a clear answer on why you are being denied a refund.

You are welcome to critique Apple and send them feedback, but these forums are not the place to do it (such posts may even be removed) since this is a consumer to consumer, technical Q&A interface. Apple isn't here and doesn't monitor the forums for this kind of feedback.
