Messages not showing on CarPlay after iOS 18 update

Seeing if anyone else is having trouble with text message displays not showing up on car screen after iOS 18 update. I have checked all settings on CarPlay and my phone, have reset settings, rebooted my phone and nothing works. Was able to see the notifications before the update. I have an iPhone 12 Pro max

iOS 18 took out the feature that allowed you to receive text messages pop ups on your vehicle screen, regardless of what app you are using. Example, listening to Sirius xm radio, you will not get a text message pop ups, only the text sound alert. You have to have the actual CarPlay app open on your vehicle screen to receive the text pop up. This came directly from apple engineers during a troubles case I had open recently.

Apple took this feature away with the 18 update. Basically if you stay in the CarPlay screen 100% of the time, it works somewhat like it used to. If driving with other car screens displayed (Sirius, manufacturer navigation screens, etc) the pop ups are no longer going to display. It was an intentional change and the only way to try and get it back is to use Apple.com/feedback to report how it affects use, safety and other aspects. Since there isn’t an option for CarPlay, previous advisors have said to put it under iPhone on the feedback page. As of my last call they said it will not come back unless a LARGE number of customers demand it, so get all your Apple user family, friends and others to report if they’ve been negatively effected by this change.

I have a post on this.

This is by design per Apple! The ONLY to see the text message pop ups on your vehicles screen, is you have to have the CarPlay app open on your vehicle’s screen all the time. If you are in something else, like Sirius/XM, it will not pop up on your vehicles screen, but you will still hear the text message sound play through your speakers if your phone is NOT on silent.

Work around-

if you completely disconnect CarPlay/remove your vehicle from your phone. You can use your vehicle’s Bluetooth. Depending on your vehicle’s Bluetooth options, you can get the text message pop up on your screen at any time.

On 4/25/25, I had the time to completely do a hard reset on my iPhone and uninstall myChevrolet app and Forget This iPhone in Apple CarPlay. Then I started from scratch to reinstall everything in hopes that I would hear Siri again for (Maps) play-by-play road directions as well as the Text Tones that have all disappeared.

As with the post from PlaneFanatic on 4/11/25, this is very frustrating, and the error appears to lie on the Apple side of things. (See Re: Carplay No Longer Works with iOS 18.4 Update • Need Fix ASAP). ←Same behavior I and others are experiencing without any resolution on the users' end.

I have yet to hear anything back from the submitted Bug Report from 4/19/25 stated in my post reply above.
