Messages not showing on CarPlay after iOS 18 update

Seeing if anyone else is having trouble with text message displays not showing up on car screen after iOS 18 update. I have checked all settings on CarPlay and my phone, have reset settings, rebooted my phone and nothing works. Was able to see the notifications before the update. I have an iPhone 12 Pro max

iOS 18 took out the feature that allowed you to receive text messages pop ups on your vehicle screen, regardless of what app you are using. Example, listening to Sirius xm radio, you will not get a text message pop ups, only the text sound alert. You have to have the actual CarPlay app open on your vehicle screen to receive the text pop up. This came directly from apple engineers during a troubles case I had open recently.

I cannot even select phone or messages in my car play options on my iPhone. This is enough to want to switch from Apple as it makes it unsafe for use. I have done every trick suggested and nothing brings it back. It is definitely an iPhone issue as the apps don't even show up at being able to add to my car play in my phone settings. They need to bring this option back and soon or people will move to android. I have always like apple for its simplicity and features. This is a major disappointment.

SO -what you are saying is that we will not be able to receive pop up text messages any longer. We will only get an alert sound and then have to go into Apple CarPlay and then into messages to retrieve.

How do you stop Siri from reading them aloud as sometimes you have passengers who do not need to be privy to a message. It was fine until I updated ios 18.3.1......

And I do not have FACE ID turned on for anything --- I don't use it at all.

My carplay was working just fine until I upgraded my Iwatch, so I thought i had inadvertently changed some Seri settings. I spent alot of time and frustration trying to figure out what “I did” that messed up my msg notification on CarPlay. It would just read my messages without me asking it too. This is a concern for two reasons… one reason is that there are so many scams out there right now, even just reading an “unknown” msg can be detrimental. But also, if I have someone else in the car with me, I don’t necessarily want them to hear my messages. The other issue, you now have to be distracted from the road in order to reply to the message. Can these issues be rectified?

Corys26 is spot-on! I too have updated to the new more recently received iOS 18.4 and have noticed the same behavior:

• no text notification sound at all, whether it's in CarPlay mode or not

• no myChevrolet app appearing on screen. You used to have a choice to have on the screen or not.

• no notification banner when not in CarPlay mode, only the sound. ←This has been going on for a while now and Apple states, what some have said here, to be a "safety issue" when I escalated this back in 2024.

I see no resolution in sight yet as well.
