screen sharing not working between macbook pro m2 and macbook pro m2 running sequoia 15.0

Requesting to share my screen from messages - worked before upgrade to sequoia on sonoma - message on other laptop does not arrive and no indication of message on originating laptop. checked screen sharing all settings are enabled on both laptops. connection is hardwire.

I can access network and see screen on other laptop...this works both ways.

Both laptops restarted.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.0

Same issues here.

If I send a remote control request (Messages, Conversation, Ask to Share Screen) from my computer - the Screen share app is supposed to appear on the recipient Mac. This request screen allows the sender to ask to take control the remote Mac.

Unfortunately, this is now normal behavior only on certain Macs with MacOS 15.

On some Macs, the request fails to open the Screen Sharing app. Instead, FaceTime Audio opens and remote control does not work. Toggling the allow control button makes no difference.

I have been able to replicate this issue on two additional Macs. There has to be a logical explanation, unfortunately, I haven’t found it yet.

<< FEATURE/FUNCTION IS NOT IMPLEMENTED CORRECTLY ... WE'LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT.>>

Apple does not know there may be a problem unless/until LOTS of folks let them know about it. Posting here among other Users is NOT adequate to let them know.

The simple way is the use product feedback page to let them know there is a bug:

Share your screen using Messages on Mac - Apple Support

I am able to share screens between an M1 MBP on Sequoia and a 2013 MBP on Big Sur 11.7.10, using Messages. Screen sharing is enabled on both. Are both your computers connected to the internet? Are you able to send any kind of Message between the two computers? Are they both signed into an Apple ID? Just trying to think of things that might have changed since you updated to Sequoia.

Do both computers show up in Find My? My M1 Mac wasn't showing up in Find My on other devices after the update, even though it was apparently active on the M1, according to Settings. Once I restarted it a couple of times, it did show up - though Messages seemed to be working right away. Again, grasping at straws, here.

Are both your computers connected to the internet? YES VIA HARDWIRE CABLE INTERNET...NO WIFI.

Are you able to send any kind of Message between the two computers? YES WE CAN SEND MESSAGE TEXTS AND EMAIL FINE. I CAN LOG INTO THE OTHER COMPUTER VIA SCREEN SHARING - WHEN YOU LOOK ON THE NETWORK YOU SEE THE OTHER LAPTOP AND YOU CAN LOGIN AND THEN VIEW THEIR SCREEN.

Are they both signed into an Apple ID? YES, BUT DIFFERENT IDS OF COURSE.

Do both computers show up in Find My? YES

BOTH LAPTOP ARE NEW MACBOOK PRO M2 RUNNING THE LATEST SEQUOIA.

APPRECIATE THE QUESTIONS. EARLIER I SHARED THAT I TALKED TO APPLE AND THEY RAN OUT OF TESTS AND COULD NOT EXPLAIN IT. WE VERIFIED THAT THE APP - SCREEN SHARING - WHICH I HAVE NEVER USED BEFORE BUT APPEARS TO BE THE CODE THAT MESSAGES IS ACTUALLY USING FOR THE INTERNAL "SHARING" FUNCTION - WORKS FINE FROM EITHER LAPTOP. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL, SCREEN SHARING APP DOES NOT HAVE SOUND BUT WHEN YOU USING SHARING IN MESSAGES YOU GET SOUND AS WELL AS SCREEN.

DON'T KNOW IF YOU SAW MY NOTE BUT WHEN I TRIED TO SHARE SCREEN TO A FAMILY MEMBER OFFSITE, WHEN I HIT "SHARE" AND SHARE MY SCREEN IT OPENED "FACETIME" AND CALLED HIM WITH SCREEN SHARING ENABLED. IT'S ALMOST LIKE SEQUOIA IS USING FACETIME TO IMPLEMENT SHARING INSIDE MESSAGES...

APPRECIATE THE QUESTIONS.

Update: confirming that the problem still happens on MacOS 15.1 (though, when I select "ask to share screen" for someone in an iMessage thread, it now launches a FaceTime Audio call, like some other posters have mentioned. Previously for me at least in macOS 15.0, it did nothing at all. Worked correctly in macOS 14 and earlier.)

Using the Screen Sharing app still functions correctly -- just not able to initiate it from Messages. (In case some aren't clear about what we're talking about, see screenshot below.)
