screen sharing not working between macbook pro m2 and macbook pro m2 running sequoia 15.0

Requesting to share my screen from messages - worked before upgrade to sequoia on sonoma - message on other laptop does not arrive and no indication of message on originating laptop. checked screen sharing all settings are enabled on both laptops. connection is hardwire.

I can access network and see screen on other laptop...this works both ways.

Both laptops restarted.

Same issues here.

If I send a remote control request (Messages, Conversation, Ask to Share Screen) from my computer - the Screen share app is supposed to appear on the recipient Mac. This request screen allows the sender to ask to take control the remote Mac.

Unfortunately, this is now normal behavior only on certain Macs with MacOS 15.

On some Macs, the request fails to open the Screen Sharing app. Instead, FaceTime Audio opens and remote control does not work. Toggling the allow control button makes no difference.

I have been able to replicate this issue on two additional Macs. There has to be a logical explanation, unfortunately, I haven’t found it yet.

"HARDWIRE"...it means that the network is not WIFI but rather a hardwire ethernet between the two laptops...

AN UPDATE...talked to apple support and we went through everything they had. Nothing new. But they brought to my attention an apple app "screen sharing" never saw it before so might have been there, never used it. it allows a laptop to connect to another just like in messages but without the sound. with messages screen sharing we had full sound support but with screen sharing app we don't have sound. anyway it's a work around because we could not get the screen sharing feature in messages to work...the functionality and icon is still there but it just appears to do nothing.

Apple support was going to turn it over to software engineering and see if they could find the solution...since we just upgraded to Sequoia my guess is that this function was not in the test plan.

We can not see your computer, and have no idea what you know other than what you post in words on this discussion. Precise terminology is not optional.

You have miscommunicated in a major way by calling the features you want to discuss, by the name of a different well-known feature entirely. 'MacOS Screen Sharing' is implemented in Settings/Preferences

Sharing > screen sharing ...

... and uses a variant of VNC, and is network-media independent, and can also be used in some cases on a PC with VNC software added on the PC.

--------

I now believe the feature you have been trying (and failing) to discuss is called AIRPLAY, and Airplay screen sharing is a minor feature inside Airplay. It is implemented ONLY using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for Macs and iDevices within Bluetooth range of each other (about 30 feet maximum.)

Same issue here. I would frequently initiate a screenshare request in Messages, which popped up the "allow" window on the other macbook, which worked great & reliably in MacOS 12, 13, 14.

Now in Sequoia 15.0 it's broken - no request to allow the screenshare pops up, when initiated from Messages.

If I request it from within the Screen Sharing app, though, it works fine. Just annoying that I have to go through the other step (luckily the laptops I connect with are in the list of previous screenshare recipients... not sure how it would work for a new person, which is why Messages was so convenient.)

I'll try when both laptops are upgraded to MacOS 15.1 and report back.
