What should I do if my Apple Pencil draws dotted lines or won't write at all?

I got a new iPad mini 6 and a new Apple Pencil 2. When I tried writing with it, it acted weird. Sometimes it just wouldn't write, other times it would draw dotted lines. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting it, restarting my iPad, taking off the screen cover, tightening the cap, and nothing has worked. Above are a couple of screenshots of me trying to make scribbles to show what I described.
