CarPlay settings on my iPhone will not respond despite being updated

I have the iPhone 16 promax. I’ve tried reconnecting Bluetooth, different cords, tried in different cars and still my CarPlay isnt working. My screen time isn’t restricting it. My CarPlay is on through settings. What do I do now? I’m getting frustrated and upset I upgraded.

yes my iOS also up to date.

If you had a phone previously connected to your car, try the following:


  1. Go into Settings on your iPhone, tap General then about and see the name of the phone and change the name to something Suzi's iPhone 16 Pro Max
  2. Go into your cars system and tell it to forget the previous phone (you may need to dig into the car systems settings to do this, so refer to your owner's manual to learn how to do this.
  3. Now try to set up CarPlay again in your car

I have two iPhones, both on iOS 18 and have absolutely no issues with CarPlay working in either of our cars. So no, it's not likely an issue with iOS 18. It can however, be an issue with the car's infotainment system, which could need an update to work optimally with iOS 18.

We have a Subaru CrossTrek with Apple CarPlay that only works via the USB connection and it still works with my iPhone 12 (IOS 17) but it won’t work with our brand new iPhone 16 (IOS18) and we’ve also checked all the settings and made sure there’s no restrictions. It’s got to be an Apple issue and we need it resolved. We don’t have the Bluetooth option on our infotainment system, so it’s not that the vehicle is remembering the older phones. Please help. We need our navigation and CarPlay options to work!

No, it doesn't HAVE to be an Apple issue. As I already mentioned, CarPlay is working just fine on both of our iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max on both of our cars. If you are having an issue on a Subaru, contact Subaru for assistance.
