Email Sound Notifications Not Working After ios 18 Update - Temporary Fix Found

I am not receiving email sound notifications after updating iPhone 14 to ios 18. After trying many offered solutions I have discovered that I DO RECEIVE SOUND NOTIFICATIONS if I uninstall (delete) the native ios "Mail" app and then reinstall it from the App Store. The PROBLEM is that this "fix" only lasts for one day and reverts back to NO SOUND NOTIFICATIONS being received the next morning.

So, if I delete and reinstall the native ios Mail app I receive sound notifications for A SINGLE DAY ONLY and the no sound notifications for emails received condition reappears the following day.

I am not tech savvy enough to know why this happens BUT I have tested this over several days and find it to be 100% accurate. Perhaps someone can figure out why delete / reinstall of the ios "Mail" app offers only a temporary (single day) fix.

This Solved My Problem.

This is how I solved my problems on my iphone 16 ios-18.3.1 apples email app not giving sounds and notifaction's, first let me say this i also have a apple watch-9 my watch always gave alerts as normal. After I read in another fourm to try turning off the bluetooth on my iphone because it was connected to my watch or for others it may be connected to a speaker or so on, My watch has celluar service so when bluetooth is off i still get notifactions on it,

I turn it off and tried it sent myself and email and got nothing. so than i went into settings, apps, Apples Email, than mail accounts i have 4, go to the bottom "Fetch New Data" on the top is "Push" my switch is Off than go to the bottom you will see Automatically my setting was set to this, there is also these setting-Manually, Hour, Every 30-Minutes, Every 15-Minutes, i set my to"Every 15- Minutes" and than i tried sending myself another email and it worked great on my phone and my watch.

Than i turn the bluetooth back on and connected to my watch with it on my waist sent myself another email and got sound notifactions on my watch only which is correct and got notifactions on my iphones lock screen (No Sounds) sounds were on the watch, than i took off my watch and left it sitting on the counter, i sent myself another email and i got the sounds and notifactions on my iphones lock screen on. This fixed my iphones sounds and notifactions and badges,

I hope this may work for others. try turning off bluetooth check to see if connected to another device and change fetch data to 15 minutes.

This is a update on 2/17/25 everything is still working perfect sounds, notifactions and badges 5-days later. if anyone needs to know a setting on my phone let me know.

Mikey5oh, I think you are right to be hesitant. I have previously uninstalled and reinstalled the Mail app and found alert sounds came back. However, they haven’t continued for more than a day.

After installing 18.4 both my wife and I immediately started to get the alert sounds again. So far they have lasted a day or so but who knows if they will keep going?

I have two iPhones each under different Apple ids, one in NZ one in the UK. Both are updated to 18.1.1. Each of them lack have sound notifications or haptics for Mail. The UK iPhone is a new 16 Pro.

I've talked to three different Apple representatives, two over the phone, one at the Regent St Apple store Genius Bar in the UK face to face. The UK phone has had its software installed twice, and my settings, which I know in any case thoroughly, are all correct, according to all three representatives. The hardware has also been checked electronically.

It follows from all this it is a software fault. It goes without saying that it should be corrected by Apple soon or it will continue to lose its reputation, as I've read many of the reports of this problem on the net.

Apple phones are beginning to include too many separate functions, some useless in my view.

Roll on the next update to fix this problem. Wake up, Apple.

You are right that using Apple mail app with a non-icloud account is affected as that is my situation. Except, my Apple watch is receiving alerts and fetching mail every 15 min. It’s only the iphone that is not. So, that must mean the mail is received , alerted and downloaded for the watch to see. But, the phone is not showing any new mail until opening the iphone Apple mail app.

No notifications and sound on my IPad since os17-even lost my emails on os17.3 and had to pay AOL to get

some back! Apple techs told me the “engineers” are working on it. Get emails only when I open the mail app.

Keeping my iPhone on ios16 as it works fine like my iPad once did. I now believe they can’t fix it and thus important emails are not read in a timely manner. Solution: Apple should replace the device with this bug for

a new one as not all devices got the mail notification bug. Strangely, it sometimes notifies with SOUND between 6-8 pm. 18.2.1 has no fix, just drained battery.

This obviously is a known issue, no audible email notifications. I’ve called Apple Support over 10 times. Some of the reps never heard of the issue while others have. I’ve had this issue since installing iOS 18.2 and now 18.3. I keep getting told that they are aware of the issue and are working on it. Even with the new update, 18.3, the issue still persists. Unbelievable.

I literally just got off the phone a couple of minutes ago with Apple. The rep wanted to screen share with me so that she could check my settings. I told her this was the 25th time I was calling regarding this issue and had her connect me to a supervisor. In short he had me do a diagnostics on the phone and send it to him. He said that he would escalate the problem and get back to me as soon as he hears back from whoever deals with the Diagnostics.

totally unacceptable. All this money spent on Apple devices and a simple bug can’t be fixed. 🤬

I turned Bluetooth off once, tested and got notification sound. Turned back on and tested, got no sound. Turned back off and tested, still got no sound!

There’s something really weird with this issue. To be a little bit fair to Apple, I have to say as an ex electrical engineer (not in phones), intermittent faults are the hardest to diagnose.

Having said that 3 months or so is a long time!

Same problem for some time. I just updated to 18.4.1 today. No change in the glitch. Spoke to Apple. The rep acted as if they have no reports of anyone reporting this issue. After speaking to their higher level, the recommendation was to back up the phone and restore to factory defaults. I declined. I doubt it would fix, and possibly screw up my thousands of songs with associated artwork. As another poster stated, it does not really seem like Apple cares what happens to their clients.
