Email Sound Notifications Not Working After ios 18 Update - Temporary Fix Found

Hey everyone, I’ve been dealing with this issue for months and I’m extremely disappointed with how Apple has handled it.. completely ignoring the problem. That said, I wanted to share something that finally worked for me. Try deleting the Mail app and reinstalling it. After four months of no notification sounds, they’re finally working again (fingers crossed it stays that way).

Makes sense re the watch receiving the alerts Jenniferfromolathe. I am using the Gmail app to alert me to new emails. I then open the Apple Mail app and it picks up the new email.

The fix is easy.

1. Open mail app.
2. click the 3 dots top right
3. Turn on “list view” to see all your emails

It doesn't have to be a watch it could be anything connected to your bluetooth just followmy post, give it a try what do have to loose.

I reinstalled the Mail app yesterday, the sound notification returned and is still working :-))

I find that if i open the junk mail folder the inbound sounds play on 18.4 but not in my primary inbox. All I know is Apple told me they admitted a bug, and were “working on it.”

Have any of you tried deleting the email app completely, then reinstalling it from the app store and resetting the notifications?

It certainly worked for me.

18.5 is not out yet. I read it is supposed to address some email issues but does not specify sound notifications.

i just did 18.5 also finally sounds are back thank god Absolutely ridiculous it took this long

When I updated to 18.5, all email sound notifications started working and are still working. It has been about 2 weeks now so I believe Apple finally fixed the issue.

i have had this issue since iOS 18 update. It’s weird. It’s hit and miss sometimes my iPad and iPhone will sound but mostly they’re silent. Tried usual stuff notification and badges and other things listed here but it doesn’t work. Even after update to 18.1 it’s still not resolving issue. Any ideas? 🤔

No - I held off and so far yesterday and today everything seems back to normal. Fingers crossed. I was getting sound notifications for Gmail and the phone was ringing when a call came in - it was just text notifications that were the main problem. Checked the Messages app in Settings and it looked like the 18.1 backup may have turned off both the RCS and MMS messaging so turned them both on again. Reset was the last resort and I was unsure whether a backup to ICloud would result in me backing up the problem and then going in a circle and still having the same problem with text notifications when I restored my settings.

As of today 11/1/24 I am getting notifications for some text messages but not all. If the text is coming from someone with an IPhone I get a sound notification (and banner) but from Android phones only the banner. Bank security code texts (RCS) - no sound notification but I get a banner.

4 weeks on. Still no resolution to email notifications on new iPad 2024. It’s getting weird now, once in every while it’ll frighten the life out of me and ping 💀!! However most of the time no sound even after the latest update.

I woke up this morning and put the sound on my phone and I was surprised I got a Mail notification sound one time only then I saw there was an 18.1.1 downloaded it and still no sound on my email notifications very disappointed
