This answer does NOT address what happened to the Apple password icon in Settings (creating a total panic). We are not talking about third-party password apps.

What answer? I'm not sure what the confusion is? When iOS 18 was released, they made changes to several areas within iOS. One change was to remove Passwords from Settings and move Passwords into its own App. The moment you downloaded iOS 18, the app was placed on your last home screen. It holds ALL the passwords you had access to when it was still in Settings.

This is not a 3rd party Password app. It is Apple's Password app.

I have lost all my passwords and password icon on my iPhone XR after the update. I have passwords saved that I really need to get back if possible.

Did you bother reading past the first post to see your Passwords are now in an app as opposed to in settings? It really helps other users if you take the time to read a bit, so others don't have to repeat what has already been answered.

So, in the name of Progress we now have to hit six keys to get us to where two strokes use to take ua.

Just for fun, let's compare how it was to how it is now:

Old way:

  1. Open your iPhone
  2. Tap the Settings App
  3. Scan to Passwords
  4. Tap Passwords
  5. Look for Password

New way:

  1. Open your iPhone
  2. Tap Password app
  3. Look for password

Would you care to explain how the way it was was easier than having all your passwords in an App you can place on your first home page? And please do tell us what 6 steps are required?

We'll be waiting for you to enlighten us.

Who approves these decisions at apple? I mean seriously this is bad.

No one here on this user to user only forum, could possibly answer your question. Personally, I think the Password app is far far better than it was when you had to open your iPhone, tap Settings, look for passwords, then search for a password, whereas now, you can open your iPhone and if you put the Password app on your first page of apps or the dock, tap the app and look for your passwords. It takes fewer steps, so to me, it's an improvement. I would love to thank whoever was responsible for making it easier to find passwords.

I accessed the list that had passwords listed - like before the update - but I don't have a clue how I found it! I thought I had it - but when I backed out of it, then tried to go back to the list, I couldn't find it :>(

Its an App, like Facebook or Messages or Mail or Phone is an App. And the App has three different colored keys on it and is says Passwords.

I have the passwords app and understand that's where they are stored now. But, only about 9 of my dozens and dozens of passwords are in the app. Where are the others I had when we accessed them through settings?

That depends on whether you were syncing your passwords with iCloud, which I hope you were? On your iPhone open the Settings App. Tap your name at the top. Tap iCloud and look for Passwords and make sure it's turned on.

All Apple had to do was to describe what was about to happen to us BEFOREHAND. The way Apple does things is — it’s masochistic sometimes. I can’t say that I am better off for having changed from a Samsung device. Apple is overdone, if you ask me.

And ALL you had to do was read about iOS 18 when you updated to iOS 18. Every update includes release notes. When iOS 18 was released in September, on the update on your iPhone, was a list of notes, which told anyone who bothered to read the list, there was a new app which would contain your passwords. And if you've owned iPhone for a while, you surely had to be aware, when the next years iOS release is introduced, there are new features, which come with major iOS releases. In addition, Apple had for months on its website, a link to explore all the new things which would come with iOS 18.

If you want to blame anyone for not knowing what was coming, Apple certainly wasn't the issue.
