Managing photos on iPad or iPhone (no location, not in album)

Hi,

I have my own system in organising my photos. I have a whole bunch of folders based on events or whatsoever (holidays, family party, days out, activities,…).

But the issues I don’t manage to solve are:

  1. Know which photos I forgot to put in a folder. How can I find out which photo is not in a folder on iPhone or iPad?

note: I am aware of Smart Lists on a Mac. I use my almost 20 years old Mac to run those lists from time to time. This is very annoying because my old Mac syncs my pictures first - does it over an over for my entire library which takes it a week or so. Once the sync is done I can check the Smart List and then I move those photos to a folder on my mobile device.

2. Same for location: how to find out which photos don’t have a location tag on iPhone or iPad?

When visiting old mines, caves, bunkers, or any other building with lots of métal or concrete, my iPhone does ‘t add the location. I manually add it afterwards. I also have pictures that friends or family shared, but they don’t have an Apple device or don’t have their geolocation on, for those I need to manually add a location. But again: how can I easily find out which photos don’t have the location info?

Again same note: do it today via my old Mac, but want this to stop. Want to do this immediatly on my mobile devices.

As far as I know, Smart Lists don’t work on iPad or iPhone. Is there any alternative way? Via the Shortcuts app? Or a solution in iOS18 which I didn’t find?

Thanks for helping out and giving my old Mac the pension he deserves.

On iPad or iPhone, which do not currently support Smart Albums:

Check out HashPhotos

https://apps.apple.com/ie/app/hashphotos/id685784609

It integrates with Photos on your iOS device and adds a Smart Album feature. Using this app a search

!#inalbum

Will find images not in an album. Perhaps a similar search will find the others you seek.

(Hat tip to User ukSamo for the recommending this app.)
