Unable to receive or make calls from iPhone post iOS 18 update

Is anyone else having issues with calls failing/not being able to receive calls after iOS 18 update? It starts working again temporarily after switching phone off and on again, but within a few hours, I can't make or receive calls again until I restart the phone. This started immediately after updating to iOS 18.

Hello,

I was able to fix this over the weekend. In my case (iPhone 13; iOS 18.0.1):

-Incoming calls (excluding FaceTime) would not ring and go straight to Voicemail. This issue also left no missed call notification. I would only get Voicemails

-SMS Texts would fail to send (not including iMessage)

Solution: My carrier reset my line connection on their end (AT&T 611) and calls started coming in. After, I turned off RCS Messages and the SMS Texting started working again.

RCS: Settings > Messages > Scroll down to RCS > Toggle Off

Hope this helps!

Have been plagued by this since 18 released now on 18.3.1

Got some relief by turning off WiFi calling and WiFi Assist, have done this on a few dozen iPhones and it has helped immensely, on AT&T in South Florida don't know is this will help with other carriers & locations.

Another benefit, Spotify no longer pauses, skips or speeds up when on Carplay or off which was an issue as well but got resolved when the WiFi settings under Celluar Data were disabled.

Hope others try and update with their carrier and location

Try turning off WiFi and under Cellular Data options set your Cellular data NOT to use 5G, try LTE and set to Low Data Mode.

See the call drops end and call quality improves. Anecdotal but I done these settings on several iOS 18 upgraded iPhones and it’s helped all of them.

Also trying with WiFi and WiFi calling enabled and Cellular Data off and it help but not as much.

If others can try this and it works for them maybe we’ll be one step closer to have fixing this…

Under Settings/Celluar

Turn off WiFi Calling or WiFi assist

Or anything WiFi that is under Cellular (and only Cellular) and optionally reboot or Power the phone off, then on or just wait a few minutes and see if your problem resolves

If does please reply to the most recent post from me with carrier and geographical location

Odd, because on at least the 15 iPhones I’ve tried this that are on iOS from 18 to 18.3.1 it relieves the problem. Fixed streaming music from skipping (likely due to buffering) on various model iPhones but have only tested those on AT&T as a carrier.

Don’t disable WiFi, just under Cellular both WiFi calling and WiFi assist. Since it’s quick to disable and test, also quick to enable if you don’t get any relief.

This is NOT a permanent solution to the problem, just temporary relief. Allows your phone to make, receive and stay on active calls without dropping or getting call failed messages.

Free to try no harm in trying and you can easily enable both features again.

3 apple support people could not solve--including one at the genius bar today--they say there is no info from corporate about any of these problems and 2 resets later--still have problems. I called AT & T and they had me turn off wireless calling--fingers crossed--the apple reps seem clueless about this even though it is on multiple message boards
