Unable to receive or make calls from iPhone post iOS 18 update

Is anyone else having issues with calls failing/not being able to receive calls after iOS 18 update? It starts working again temporarily after switching phone off and on again, but within a few hours, I can't make or receive calls again until I restart the phone. This started immediately after updating to iOS 18.

Hello,

I was able to fix this over the weekend. In my case (iPhone 13; iOS 18.0.1):

-Incoming calls (excluding FaceTime) would not ring and go straight to Voicemail. This issue also left no missed call notification. I would only get Voicemails

-SMS Texts would fail to send (not including iMessage)

Solution: My carrier reset my line connection on their end (AT&T 611) and calls started coming in. After, I turned off RCS Messages and the SMS Texting started working again.

RCS: Settings > Messages > Scroll down to RCS > Toggle Off

Hope this helps!

I had to do 2 logging sessions and it happened on both of them. The rep told me that she can not inform me when they fix it, they may not list in the bugs fixed so it's just a guessing game. This issues started with my on my iPhone 16pro in 18.1 . She told me no one else is having the issue just me. Coming to this board thats clearly a lie. No help offered just hours and hours of Research and development I had to perform for them for free with zero incentive other than the privilege of paying retail for a iPhone 16pro 512gig that does not work. The issue for me I get call failed soon as i pull the phone away from my face and the back light comes on, I will hear a text on my phone and i pull away to look and it says call failed and the then the number is no longer in my call history. This is horrible because I use my phone for work. So waiting on a call where I dont have the persons number then they ask for some details I need to look up in my phone then it goes call failed and number is not in my call history. I have to hope they call back. No fix, 3 different reps, all blamed previous rep for doing the wrong thing. one rep told me to wipe out my 400 gig of data and use the phone with no apps and not logged into my iCloud. I might as well buy a flip phone or even worse and android. please fix this issue.

Network provider have said it’s not them and have I contacted apple. I am inclined to believe that is the iOS 18.3 update and the I immediately stopped being able to receive calls immediately after upgrading. The fact that upgraded on a second phone and the same thing happened in that it worked immediately before upgrading on two phones makes me believe it’s the iOS. I did go into apple but they said it’s not a known issue. So looks like a waste of two phones.

Hi… I had a word with apple support, they confidently told me that they will resolve the issue … they have taken many screenshots along with logs and everything, but after 4-5 days of waiting for the revert, I got the revert that it’s from Carrier ??? I said how come it be possible as my surroundings are also using the same carrier but they are not facing any issue … THEY HAVE NO ANSWER??? Apple had intentionally created this for old device .. so that their new device make market presence. Very BAD STRATEGY.

Upgraded mine last night and saw some improved call quality and improved response on WiFi and Cellular Data. Didn’t have as many call drops. Upgraded ty Wife’s phone to 18.3 this morning and calls to each other were much clearer and calls didn’t drop. Call to other iPhones on 18.* did have drops during those calls. On the 18.3 phones had a call on for 45 minutes while my wife was on the road and the call stayed active but a call between an 18.2.1 and an 18.3 phone still dropped but not as fast and redial was possible after a few seconds.

Note: set Cellular Data to the default settings first, to make sure the calls improved.

I’m only one metric so far, hope others chime in with equally good experiences as well

Update: the call routing between cellular and WiFi calling is now working well again. Between two iPhones on 18.3 perfect quality and no drops even after 20 minutes.

Lasted only a few minutes on a phone with 18.2.1 and 18.3 before a call drop, with a few minor call quality issues along the way.

Access to data or performance when on WiFi not having an issue either. Next up testing with cellular data disabled and WiFi enabled, which had issues on 18.2.1

Update: Cellular Data off, 18.3 to 18.3, WiFi calling on both, different locations, different WiFi networks, calls stayed up and quality was excellent.

Post health issue I’m home 99% of the time. That and the only way calls don’t drop with 18.3 is if I turn off Cellular Data forcing the use of WiFi for Data and WiFi calling. There’s no way I should have 5GB of Cellular Data if on my home’s WiFi 99% of the time. Why so little WiFi assist? That should be 5GB in terms of use as the phone is on WiFi 99% of the time and network stats show 100% uptime.

If I get a call and Cellular is wonky, I don’t even get the call on WiFi calling, it gets answered on one of my Alexa units (glowing green).

There’s something wrong with iOS 18.*.* as this has been going on since then and particularly acute with 18.2.1 and now 18.3.

Apple, fix it,

The lack of transparency and accountability, acknowledgment (with all the reports of issues) seriously calls into question the quality of the product and company as a whole.

Be careful what you say on this thread. I have been dealing with this issue since 18.1 (OCT 28th) with multiple senior advisors. All made me believe it was just me. No one offered any compensation or loaner phone for virtually rendering my phone useless, especially in a recent emergency. I was talking to someone higher up that shall remain nameless and she seemed like she was empathetic to the issues and eluding to doing something to make up for it. Well soon as I commented on this board (which is tied to my apple id) her tone changed and took a HARD stance with me that there will be no compensation for your phone not being able to stay on a call for the last 3 and half months and they will not compensate me for time spent doing all the logging sessions, and multiple different back ups, installs, testing etc. She said technology is not guaranteed. Sadly a simple mastered and main function of a phone is not guaranteed. She doubled down and firmly said no compensation and my only option is to just wait for an update. I did not know this was a wide spread issue till i found this forum. Soon as I commented on this forum their helpfulness halted. Never threatened or took an attitude with them, just explained i have been a customer of EVERY iphone since iPhone 3g and clearly I am fully submerged in the Apple ecosystem. It's sad they have a true customer and fan that their defunct operating system is causing my phones most basic function to not work and cause stress during work and times of need. Their failure to recognize that and make it right is disheartening. Im not looking for anything for free, i have everything I need, just a gesture to show they care and want my continued business. Clearly they don't care and probably won't need to care because they are a 3 Trillion dollar company and I am just a guy that buys Apple mac books, iPhones, iPads and apple tvs.

I have an Iphone 14, SMS and mobile data work fine, but when it comes to incoming or outgoing calls, the call takes about twenty seconds and says "failed call". Diagnostics were done at the service center and it was shown that everything is fine. Now I have iOS 18.3 and the problem started when I updated to 18.2.1 and it still persists. I have tried all possible tricks from the internet. The phone is still under warranty, they told me when I took it from the service to use it for a few days and if the problem reoccurs to come back. Has anyone been able to resolve the issue?

I don’t know why they keep playing these games they did this to me knowing fully well this won’t works. Call into customer service and ask for a free set of AirPods . This is the only known work around and they sent them to me . This is a terrible flaw I have been dealing with since October and it’s been nothing but games and backpedaling. Everyone has a different answer and none of them work.

It’s not always the case . I’ve been dealing with this since October 18.1. Some of the updates were fine for a few days then it came back with a vengeance . Also it doesn’t help that Apple is fully aware of the issue but doesn’t want to publicly acknowledge it. So they won’t put it in the update description . The rep told me they won’t notify people and you will just have to wait and see after each update . I am still getting call failed but not in the same manor , I am trying to test it as much as I can but my phone is for business and I have to use headphones to make sure it doesn’t hang up .
