Will Apple charge for diagnostics on my new iPhone?

hello, I just recently made a purchase online for a new phone and it just arrived yesterday. In the settings it says “unknown battery.” & “unknown display” i have looked into it and it look me to the apple store website, will they check my phone for free or will they charge me for the repairs? also will there be any problems with my iphone if i do not get the display and battery fixed ? thank you. (iphone 12, ios 18.0)

I understand that your iPhone is showing unknown display and battery in settings. The iPhone that you purchased is not brand new. The previous owner has replaced the battery and the display with third party (non-Apple) parts. It is an iPhone 12 and you do not have to replace the battery and the display if the iPhone is working. The only thing is those two parts are not genuine Apple parts and may not work properly or may not last long.

The Apple Store will check your iPhone for free, however, the repair/replacement of the parts will cost you. My recommendation is that if the seller did not inform you about the battery and the display, then return the iPhone and get your money back if you can.

You bought it online from where, exactly?

Apple no longer sells the iPhone 12. It's discontinued.

Return it and get your money back then go buy a phone from an authorized retailer.
