How do I enable text announcement in CarPlay after iOS 18 update

Since ios18 update, text messages do not announce in carplay unless the vehicle screen is the message screen. They will not pop up on any other screen. It will read them but but show the message. I don't want the audio announcement but I want to see the visual announcement when I'm on the radio screen

I really hate this new update. When I’m listening to music, and I get a text, it stops the music sometimes it plays the notification sound which is new or it just starts Reading the text message. Not great when someone else is in the car. Seems the only solution is to make sure that it’s not on the text page. If I want to respond to a text, I have to switch it back over to the music page, etc., to avoid this. What a pain.

It is more than a bit shortsighted to think it is more safe to require users to continually have to switch screens while driving to see if a text message has arrived. That is only slightly more safe than having to pick up your phone while driving. What's the point of having car play at all if the main feature which makes it most useful is no longer operable?

So basically, Thought it was me. But before the update, it was reading my texts, so I wouldn’t even have to think about it. I just plug in my phone throw it on the dash call it a day. Now all it does is ding and ding and ding and to me that is far more annoying. Which makes it unsafe if you’re looking at your screen on your car instead of the road like I used to. Also, I’ve noticed that Siri does not respond in the manner that she used to after the update.

Yes, I am also experiencing this issue. I’ve been told by my car manufacturer that it’s an iOS 18 issue and then Apple tells me it’s a Car manufacturer issue. I’m so frustrated. My old car (with wired CarPlay) did not have this issue. I got an update notification for iOS 18.3 today hoping that would fix this issue but it did not. Apple told me to have Siri read me my notifications automatically but there’s no option to respond this way so that does no good if the text is a question like what time are we meeting? Also what if you don’t want the entire car hearing your message. Apple needs to fix this and soon. Everyone experiencing this needs to notify Apple so that they fix it. I’ve called them twice about this issue.

Yes, me too. I also thought I was losing my mind. Brand new car and my text messages are not coming through unless I am on the message screen. No ding, nothing. I am going crazy, and it makes me not even want to use Apple CarPlay. This is so unsafe and a royal pain. I am going on now to leave my feedback with Apple and hope that enough people complain so they fix this issue.
