Markup issue/bug IOS 18.0 photo editor

Just went to mark up one of my photos for the first time post iOS 18.0.1 and this same thing is happening on my iphone 14! It's so frustrating! I'm glad to know it's not just me so hopefully this gets fixed soon.

I have a 15 Pro Max and ever since the iOS 18 update, when I go to add text to a photo, I can’t even find the option at all to add the text. I can’t find the markup option anywhere! I have watched a tutorial on YouTube thinking that I may be missing it somewhere, but where it is supposed to be located at the top right corner instead of the little marker icon, it has a little timer instead. I’ve clicked on so many things, and I just cannot find it. So if anyone can help with this problem, I would truly appreciate it. The earlier iOS version were so much easier than this one, but I do like the other a lot of the other features that iOS 18 has though. I wish that they would give tutorials along with the updates, especially when they have changed so much and rearranged a lot of things on this particular update. Smh 🤦‍♀️

I have an older 11 , updated to IOS 18.0, and have noticed an issue with the Markup tool when editing photos…specifically when trying to change the color of text when adding text to a photo.

I added a video of what happens, essentially when I click on the existing text to change it to another color (as I’ve done so many times before) when the toolbar opens to change, it offers the choices, I click on the circle to change color, and the pallet selection then opens…before I can click on a choice, the whole thing closes on it’s own. When I try to reopen it, it opens and instantly closes by itself. It looks like a bug/conflict. Thanks.

OMG I just nearly ripped my face off. I’m so frustrated with this markup tool. What the **** is going on? I can’t do any work with it. Every time I try to make a simple thing that I’ve done a million times before, the selection palette instantly closes before I can make a selection. I’m so ****** right now.

Apple what are you doing? What the **** is going on with this markup tool!?! FIX IT!!

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Same. 18.1. I can do all the markups I want but then, when I go to save, “sorry we can’t save right now, try again later”. Sometimes a restart helps. Most times it does nothing. Waiting for iCloud to finish syncing doesn’t help either (in fact, the last successful use of markup was when iCloud was actively updating….go figure). So beyond frustrating. I miss the days when their motto was, “it just works”…..

Happening to me too. I rely on markup for business product photos. What the heck am I going to do now? Even even it is working, it’s going to take way more time for each photo. Who the **** thought this would be a good change? And how do we get it fixed?

This update still did not fix it for me. Also treated several times on several photos. Add a text box. Edit the text. Then try to change the color. Nope, the popup edit bubble still disappears before a font or color can be chosen.

Having same problems on new iPhone 16 Pro Max. It is unfathomable that something that worked well before is now broken. Take the good code from ios17 and paste it into ios18 and it should work. Is this rocket science. What bothers me is Apple testers. What do they test?

As of 12/13/2024 markup is still not working. I have an iPhone 12. I am not updating this new iOS 18.2. The previous one killed my battery life. That’s all you guys can offer…. updates? I can’t even edit my pictures properly. This is just ridiculous… almost 2 months and it’s not been fixed! Forcing people to update for us to buy a new phone! 👿

Ok, so they've finally fixed the issue with arrow colors; when you choose shapes/arrows and a black arrow shows up, a little popup menu shows up as well: the thick line on the far left side of the menu allows the arrow thickness and color to be changed.

“If you reset your settings, you will need to recreate your Home Screen, re-add all of your cards into Wallet, and set any special notifications or sounds.”

I’ll do that when they publicly acknowledge this nightmare, and other coding disasters like never adding Boolean search to Contacts, terrible exports from Pages, inability to increase font size in PDFs in Books…

I just updated my 13 pro iPhone to the latest operating system 18.2.1 on January 10. The markup tool continue to work properly for 1 day then it stopped. I started having issues with the color palette and font. I am having exactly the same bugs and issues everyone is describing in this forum. I’m always afraid to update my iPhone for that same reason. I use the markup tool just about everyday, so please fix it!

I don't think this is a matter of Apple not noticing. Quite sure Apple is well aware there's an issue with MarkUp. Whether it gets fixed or not has nothing to do with you and me. Does Apple show itself to be a company that values custormer satisfaction and service? No, they stopped that charade a long time ago. If it's not hurting sales and they're not getting sued it's irrelevant.

This is so frustrating, it’s 2/8/25 and Apple has yet to fix this issue. I cannot change the color to shapes in markup. It’s ridiculous to still have this unresolved. Apple is becoming such trash. Use to think if them as in a league of their own, never having/leaving issues, glitches, and nonsensical annoyances like PC and Android but unfortunately they declined to be on par or worse now. It’s something little but makes a huge difference for someone like me who used it on a daily basis. I honestly don’t know what to say, I’m just baffled they haven’t fixed it yet.
