Getting my 2015 MacBook Pro ready for sale

My 2015 MacBook Pro is running El Capitan. I quickly checked the procedure for getting it ready and it says only Monterey allows for erasure. That seems weird. Should I upgrade to Monterey just to erase it for sale?

Boot into Restore mode,CMD+r keys...

Look at top of screen for Utilities menu...

In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.

Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.

Anything show there?

If not get an external drive to install to.

No point in updating as your Mac is not Apple Silicon nor Apple T2 security chip.

"Use Erase All Content and Settings

Erase All Content and Settings is a feature that makes it easier to reset your Mac to factory settings. Your Mac only has this feature if it’s using macOS Monterey or later and is a Mac with Apple silicon or a Mac with the Apple T2 Security Chip.

If your Mac has this feature, you don’t need to follow the other steps in this article. Instead, learn how to use Erase All Content and Settings. "
