Etrecheck report- something is using unusually large amounts of cpu power in my new MacBook m3pro, and is causing random beach balling.

My etrecheck report says something in my MacBook m3pro is using unusually large amounts of cpu power, and is causing random beach balling when doing things like opening the App Store or trying to add credit cards to Apple Pay on the laptop.

Ive attached the report below- though this is a device that is pretty much brand new with hardly anything downloaded.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.0

Hi, I didn't have the folder before, but I don't think there's been any change after I made it. Still getting the same thing in the console. The only thing I had there before was 'old windows appdata' and even then I think most of those files are empty. This is a new computer and I tried to transfer from my old windows but it looks like something may have gone pretty wrong in the process. Do you think I should just factory reset and manually move the stuff over that I want using an external hard drive?

None of that looks right.

First of all, the folder name is "CallHistoryDB". The CallHistorySyncHelper process will create those "CallHistory.storedata" files itself. You just need to create the folder for it.

But your Application Support folder doesn't look right either. There are two of these folders. One is at "/Library/Application Support". This one is relatively empty. It only has 17 folders in it on my computer. The "CallHistoryDB" folder is in the other Application Support folder. This one is in the Library folder in your home directory. The path is dependent on your short user name, but can be represented as "~/Library/Application Support". on my computer, this one has 90 folders.

The folders on your computer will be different and will have different contents. But having only one folder is most definitely wrong. Just last night I setup a new, factory-fresh Sequoia virtual machine. It has 11 and 29 folders in those locations.

Do you think I should just factory reset and manually move the stuff over that I want using an external hard drive?

I think that's the best course of action here. Something must have gone horribly wrong with your Windows transfer.

It printed about 500,000 in like the 2 seconds I ran it I'm pretty sure.

Maybe more than that.

Do you actually have a "CallHistoryDB"' in your Application Support folder? In Finder, hold down the option key and choose "Library" from the "Go" menu. Then navigate to the "Application Support" folder. Look for a folder named "CallHistoryDB". Here is what mine looks like:

When I open up the CallHistory.storedata file using sqlite3, it's pretty much as described. My call history from iCloud, phone calls, FaceTime calls, etc.

If you have that folder, drag it to the trash. Then restart. See if that fixes the problem.

If you don't have that folder, create it. Then restart.

Any change in Console afterwards?

I don't think doing either of these will actually delete any of your iCloud call history data. But just so you know, it is possible.

It looks like the problem is the "CallHistorySyncHelper" process from Apple.

Normally I don't tell people to do this. But in your case, it seems like the logging system is involved. Run the "Console" app and turn on the logging. It should be printing some unbelievably huge number of messages. See if you can find any rhyme or reason to what it's printing and post that in a reply here. Hopefully that will provide some clue about what is going wrong.

I do not believe you are navigating to the correct Application Support folder.

Do that.

It's quite likely something went wrong with that Windows PC transfer, but post a revised screenshot before giving up.

After clicking on library from the go menu I get taken to this page-

Then after clicking application support this is the page I'm taken to-

There's not really much from there on apart from a really long path of different files in that one.

Not sure what this means but I suspect it's probably that I need a factory reset.

I don't really want it to cause problems down the line but i'll wait to hear what you guys say before I do anything.

Thanks for all the help-

Hugo
