Can no longer open Passwords in iPadOS 18

I can no longer view my saved passwords on iPad Air running OS18. The Passwords app prompts for touch id and opens a blank white screen. I have tried restarting iPad multiple times. I have tried turning password sync on and off multiple times. I have tried opening passwords from the system menu. Although the system menu indicates there are more than 200 passwords in the file, I can see none of them. Passwords to do appear in the app on iPhone.

Found a fix.

Tap the screen controls at the top (three dots/ellipsis)

At the bottom of the screen, tap ‘New Window’

Passwords should now appear. You can close the blank window.

Us too, my husband just got a 9th generation iPad. It would not let us set it up until we updated to ios 18.1. It has the password app and the app shows he has 77 passwords but we cannot view any of them. Tried all sorts of things, even asked a rep at the local Verizon store. No idea why or how to resolve the problem. Can anyone help? I tried the fix suggestion but there is no screen with dots in the corner to open another window.

My wife had this same problem, iPad Air 5th Gen, on 30th Dec 2024

Chuck’s fix worked.

Tap on the password app,

  • it opens but the screen is blank
  • at the very top of the blank screen, in the centre, are 3 tiny dots, close together (about 5mm wide in total)
  • tap on those dots
  • a short menu pops down (options are “full screen”, “split view”, “slide over” and “close”)
  • ignore that menu :-) and instead look down to the bottom of the screen,
  • there should be two rectangles at the bottom edge of the screen
  • the first rectange is grey and empty, and says “passwords” under it
  • the second rectange has a big + sign in it, and says “new window” underneath
  • tap the rectange with the + sign
  • a new window opens in the screen, replacing the previously empty one, it should show your passwords
  • as you cry out in joy and relief, and offer silent (or vocal) thanks to Chuck, before you finish, notice that there are now 3 rectangles at the bottom of the screen…
  • the first is still the empty grey one, the second is a tiny replica of your new (working) password screen, and the third is a big plus sign
  • flick the first (grey) one upwards to close it (it was useless anyway after all)
  • now just tap anywhere in the main screen to make it the “current” screen
  • you’re all done.
