Does the new iphone support wired apple carplay?

My new phone is up and running and paired with my 2018 Subaru. But when plugged into the USB Type 1 port, apple carplay does not come up like it did with my iphone12. What am I missing? My car is old enough it never offered wireless carplay.

iPhone 16 Pro Max, iOS 18

Yes, wired CarPlay is supported on the new phones. Some things to try:

  1. Go into Settings App on your new phone, General > About and change the name of the phone to something like Larry's iPhone 16 Pro Max. Often the car sees the name of the phone and is looking for that phone.
  2. Next, go into your cars infotainment settings and remove your previous phone.
  3. Force Restart your new iPhone --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
  4. Now connect the phone to your car and see if its recognized for CarPlay.
