CarPlay accessory not supported after update iPhone 16 Pro

Frustrated reading all the posts about this going back for years. Never had a problem connecting my iPhone 16 Pro to my Honda Fit with a USB cable until my first software update. I have hard rebooted the phone and the car's audio system multiple times. I have deleted the car from CarPlay and reconnected via Bluetooth. Bluetooth connection still works fine, unfortunately my 2018 car does not support wireless CarPlay. I have tried a new USB cable. Please help - and tell me that Apple is working on a fix for this recurring problem.

After all of the troubleshooting I did go to the dealer and they had to update my audio system - for $279.

Then I was unable to sign in to this community using my chickpea49 username. Hence the new username.

Not super happy but at least CarPlay is working now.

We did think of a workaround which I refused to use but might work for others. I have a Pixel 6 which worked just fine, was gifted the iPhone. I could have tried using the iPhone as a hotspot for the Pixel and using Android Auto. I did not want to carry 2 phones with me.

And I know you can just use CarPlay from the phone. But once you get used to seeing the maps on the big screen...

Sorry for anyone else who needs to spend this much time and money because of an Apple update. Really hoping this doesn't happen again but I am not optimistic.

After digging deeper into the comments on other queries on non-Apple support websites I did go to Settings-Screen Time-Content&Privacy Restrictions- Allowed Apps and Features. This was turned off (not just for CarPlay - completely toggled off). I will let you know if this made a difference.

I also tried resetting network settings and turning vocal shortcuts off.

On the phone with Apple right now and they went through all the above steps. She had me rename my phone and recommended a shorter cable. They also recommended to update the car's firmware. I did go into the radio and look for system settings and did not see any update options. The the next step will be go to to the dealer. Still frustrated. Hoping one of my fixes helps others.
