No colour palette available to use when using Markup

We have a strange issue with one of our 2 new iPhone 16s. One, a 16 with 256gb memory works absolutely fine, but a 512gb 16 Plus will not display more than a brief flash of the colour palette when trying to manipulate a shape in a photo. You can add a shape, but as soon as you try to change the fill colour the colour palette appears for a nanosecond on the screen and then disappears. This means you cannot carry out any markup actions to your photos.

Both phones are using the latest software, IOS 18.0.1

Anyone got any ideas?

Did you buy the phone someplace you can easily return it? I mean, go back to Walmart or whoever and see if you can find a 16 that works? This is fascinating-- can it really be the hardware? If you're anywhere near an Apple store, it sure would be worth it to take them both in and do a big, "Huh?"

Actually, this has also been reported on an iPad, but my iPad works. So it's not specific to an iPhone 16

My iPhone 12 works fine, like your 16, but there are a number of reports of the same trouble that you have with your 16 plus. It's been hard to find out what causes the difference, and you guys are in a great position to compare! I'm guessing that you already have, but can you think of what might be making the difference? I'm guessing you've swapped phones and it makes no difference-- it's not the operator?

Do you have the same service? Does either have crazy apps?
