Unknown parts (screen, battery) on iOS 18
I have a broken screen and bought a local replacement. If I update my phone to iOS 18 and then replace the screen, will it work?

If you replace the screen yourself or by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, the following are the likely consequences:
- FaceID will never work again
- True Tone will never work again
- You will forever have an unknown part logged in settings
- If something goes wrong with your phone, Apple won't touch it for service, nor take it in trade
- If you try to sell the phone to someone, they likely won't be interested and its value will be greatly diminished
As to whether it will work regardless of which iOS version you are running, we can't tell you, IF you are the one intent on replacing the screen.
If the above consequences are not a concern to you, it's your phone, so do as you wish. But don't come here looking for help if and when something doesn't go well, or the phone doesn't work after the screen replacement.
Ask yourself if the cost savings are worth the risk of potentially damaging your phone further.
