The styles option does not appear when I attempt to edit a photo in the photos app after iOS 18.0.1 update

The styles option does not appear when I attempt to edit a photo in the photos app. I have a 16 pro max with the latest iOS update 18.0.1.

I do still show the filters, but not styles. What do I do?

I had the same issue. High Efficiency checked and style appears in Camera, but not in Photos.

Here is what fixed for me:

Go to Settings, and

  1. Go to Settings / Camera / Format and confirm that you have a check next to High Efficiency. Take a photo.
  2. Go back to Settings / Camera / Format and check Most Compatible. Take a photo
  3. Go back to Settings / Camera, and re-select High Efficiency. Take a photo. The Photos App will now show the Styles option in the Edit mode.

Unchecking and re-selecting the High Efficiency mode appears to reset it, and the Styles edit function in Photos.

Hope this works for you.

When this happens to me on my iPhone 16 Pro Max, restarting the phone fixes it. However, it will only fix it for photos captured after the device reboot. It does not address the issue for photos that were captured while the device was in this state.

This has been an intermittent problem for me. My iPhone will work fine; Styles appear in Edit Mode in the Photos app, and then Styles will no longer appear for newly captured photos at some random point. So, the device reboot is only a temporary fix as this bug has been reoccurring for me.

Sorry to hear you’re having challenges using the Styles feature.

When editing images in the Photos app you must be using images captured with an iPhone 16 model and also in HEIF format. Images captured using other model iPhones and in other formats such as RAW, JPEG, DNG, and Most Compatible will not be able to access the Style settings.

When in Camera mode, the Style settings can only be modified with images being captured in HEIF and Most Compatible. However, Most Compatible will not be able to be edited in Photos app.

The Apple Support articles I linked below cover this in much more detail and contain additional information about Styles and other camera settings and features.

I had the same strange effect. Sometimes Styles was available sometimes not. And I am also talking about the same settings…

What helped me to get Styles back was just a restart of the phone. But unfortunately all Pictures taken before the restart would not show the option Styles anymore. Must be a bug 🐛… Everything else doesn’t make sanse.

The same thing happened with me. I have iPhone 16 base model and after taking a few pics, the styles in edit mode wasn’t working for me, so I just went back to camera and tried to use styles like using some other style rather than my current one. It did take the pic but when I opened the pic in the gallery, the style was gone, it looked like a standard pic with no styles filter on it. I turned off my phone and turned it back on and now somehow it works. This is happening ever since the 18.1.1 update. Apple needs to fix this!

To resolve this issue, you can try one of the following options:

1. Restart your iPhone: Power it off and turn it back on.

2. Force restart your iPhone:

• Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.

• Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.

• Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears, then release it.

I had the same problem, and it was fixed using this method. Let us know if it works for you!
