How problematic is a replacement battery that is not genuine Apple?
iPhone SE, iOS 17.6.1, and all this is new to me. I'm not dumb but I am ignorant
I just learned (on this forum) a week ago about iPhone battery health. I was told to look in Settings and it was below 80% so I needed to replace it.
I went to the Verizon store where I bought it and they said they don't do that, and I should find an Apple repair place. I googled for "apple authorized repair near me" and it said there's a fix-it place in the local Walmart so I read the customer reviews and they all said it's a great fix-it place so I went there and got a new battery for $90.
I went home and only then saw that the Settings button on the home screen has a red circle on it and inside it says the battery is not recognized, it's not a genuine Apple battery, and health information is not available for it. Sure enough, inside Settings/Battery I can't see any health info.
RATS!!! and DARN!!!
I don't think I'll be able to take it back to the fix-it guy. But other than not knowing the battery's health, which I never knew anyway in the five or six years from the time I bought it, is it a problem for the phone working? I suppose I'll find out tomorrow, after it charges up overnight, if it runs up to 100% (the level of charge at the top right corner seems to work). And I'll find out during the day how long the 100% lasts.
But I'm just wondering if y'all have an opinion on aftermarket batteries.
And if I really do need to get a genuine Apple battery, how do I find a genuine Apple repair shop?
