Lost iPhone 12 at Munich Airport

I accidentally left my phone at the airport in March and before I realized it we had already taken off. The find my app showed it at the airport for several days. Then it disappeared from the airport but today I had a notice that someone is trying to activate it. The "Find My" app is showing it at address Herbolzheim, Germany. If anyone knows someone at that address please let them know that I would like to have the phone returned to me.

You say that you lost your phone in March, in Munich? In an airport, which would no doubt have a Lost and Found department? And now it's turned up in Herbolzheim (which Google Maps says is about 4 hours away by car)?

If someone found this phone and kept it turned off for seven months before turning it on again, in a place that far away, that doesn't suggest that the person with the phone has any intention of returning it to the rightful owner. It suggests that maybe they were worried about Activation Lock and were waiting in the hopes that you would remove the phone from the list of devices associated with your Apple ID – which would clear Activation Lock and let them "make your phone their own."

Sounds to me like the phone is gone. You're never going to see it again.

I have determined that the address where the phone is currently located is an auction house, Auktionhaus Clesle, where Luthansa and Eurowings takes items left behind and not claimed. I have contacted the Lufthansa/Eurowings Lost And found depatrment. It is interesting that after seven months the phone has turned up. It seems that Lufthansa is not very thorough is their attempt to find the owners of lost items.
