Photos stuck on “Finding People” & is not recognizing people in most photos.

Problem: New phone. Photos are not tagging people, let alone even recognizing that there is a face in the photo. Swipe up, and where it would normally identify a person or have a question mark for those faces that aren’t identified, it shows nothing as if there are no faces at all. And this isn’t by ‘person.’ Because some photos with the same person are noticed, while others are not.

Background: New phone. Did not restore from back up, but rather started new. Same iCloud. 14k photos. All in iCloud. People are identified on other devices. Seems like the iphone is stuck or still processing. But there is no indication of how many it’s done, where it’s at, if it’s still processing, or how long it has left.

Troubleshooting: Phone has been restarted. iCloud info verified. It’s on charge every day. New pics are syncing fine, but still no facial recognition happening. I’ve had the phone doing this since Sept 27th. That would be going on two weeks.

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 18
