Music App - Search error: "Something went wrong. Please try again later."

Hello, I'm having a problem with the Apple Music app search function.

Inputting any search terms and pressing return consistently leads to the message: "Something went wrong. Please try again later":

As a workaround, I'm able to open a song, artist, or album page when its preview appears under the search bar:

However, certain artists and tracks don't appear as previews (even when I've confirmed their availability by searching them on Apple Music on a browser). As a result, they are impossible to access from the app.

I've already tried to sign out and sign back in to my account, as well as restarting the machine entirely, to no avail. Running Sonoma 14.6 on a 2021 Apple M1 Pro.

Is this a known issue, and does anyone have suggestions to resolve this issue?

Thank you

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.6

I am also having this issue. Just wanted to let anyone else affected that I have reported this issue up to Level 3 support at Apple and they're handing it off to the development team.

It does not appear to be account related as we did some testing, including using a fresh account on the same machine with the same issue. Appears to be specific to that version of Apple Music or MacOS. This is occurring for me on OS 14.7.

Apple never, ever, gives updates on when something will be fixed. And I expect that this not a priority issue right now. So IF there’s a 14.7.1 or 14.8 in development we’ll just have to wait. While I see this issue myself it is not a show stopping bug at all. Apple could also just release a Music app update to fix it. Time will tell. Patience is a virtue.

wow. I thought this was something that started happening a few days ago, but as I keep scrolling, it seems like this has been going on for two weeks now or more. Glad I am not the only one. So what now?
Hopefully this gets resolved soon.

The only options we have as of now are:

  1. Upgrade the entire OS to Sequoia (not recommended, unless you planned on upgrading anyway)
  2. Use the Apple Music player on the Web
  3. Restrict your searches in the desktop Apple Music app to single keywords
  4. Use an unaffected device (iPad or iPhone, or a Mac running any other version of Apple Music besides Sonoma) to search, and then add the desired song to your library

Also, anyone who has not done so should add their voices in reporting this to Apple, which helps gives them an idea of the severity of the issue.

Reporting back on October 26, 2024 and confirming—as others have—that the problem appears to be resolved. 👍🏻 🎉

I used the same test cases as before, and it's working now. So this tells us that it was indeed a backend issue, since no Music app or macOS update was required.

I will update (and close, if I can) my Feedback report with Apple.

Relieved that this super important issue has been fixed, and it only needed to be fixed on Apple's server end!
