Preventing Face ID from opening the Passwords app

Before iOS 18, I could use Face ID to unlock phone, but still require passcode to open saved passwords. Since iOS 18, Passwords app opens simply with my Face ID, without requiring passcode as it did before. I want Passwords to require my passcode always. Is disabling Face ID altogether for the entire phone the only way to go back to passcode requirement for accessing saved Passwords?

You appear to have tapped Settings/Face ID & Passcode. That is not what I suggested. It isn’t even close. So I will be extremely pedantic:

  • Make sure your phone is powered on
  • Go to your Home screen
  • Make sure you are on the page with the Settings app
  • Tap Settings
  • Scroll down to the bottom and tap Apps
  • Scroll down and tap Passwords

This is what you should see:

Note that the first line says Face ID with a switch to turn it on or off.

Thank you. Unfortunately, there is no “Face ID” option under Settings/Apps/Passwords for me to turn off or on. That’s the problem. There is no place anywhere in the Settings to choose how to access the Passwords App. It’s automatically opening with Face ID.

The only place Face ID is mentioned is in Settings/Face ID & Pass Code

and if I click the Other Apps button, those 17 Apps don’t include the Password s app.

Thanks again, though being pedantic wasn’t necessary. I understood you the first time and I was merely referring to the only place Face ID was mentioned on my iphone. The screenshot you included doesn’t resemble mine at settings/apps/passwords. Here’s what mine look like:

do you see the problem now?

I have an iPhone 15 Max Pro, with iOS 18.0 freshly installed. Perhaps our phones our different.
