I just bought an Apple Watch SE and attempted to pair it with my iPhone 13 running iOS 17.7 and the watch says it won’t pair because the phone is out of date. How can that be and how can this be fixed? (I can’t update to 18 due to issues with another app.)

New SE comes from Apple with OS11 since September. That needs OS18, ie iphone XS or later

Source please? This is an Apple doc with required phone and iOS. It clearly says iOS 16 and iPhone 8 minimum for Apple Watch SE.

You must update to iOS18.
PS I have reported that article to the forum Hosts. Every year it causes confusion, particularly when the model year cycles over.
In your case you should talk to the developers of this rogue app.
