Unexplained Screen Damage on MacBook Air: A Frustrating Warranty Experience
On June 10, 2024, in Ukraine, I purchased a MacBook Air 13" with Apple M2/8CPU/8GPU/8GB/256GB SSD in Starlight (MLY13). I was thrilled to have this computer, as I had used previous models without any issues and trusted the company. However, on October 7, 2024, horizontal and vertical lines suddenly appeared on the screen, making it unusable.
The next day, the seller sent the laptop to a service center under the worldwide limited warranty. Unfortunately, they determined that the screen matrix was damaged but couldn’t identify the concrete cause, meaning the repair was not covered under warranty. As a result, I was told I wouldn’t be eligible for a refund, repair, or replacement.
What frustrates me most is that I took good care of the device. It was never dropped, exposed to water, or damaged in any way. There are no visible defects on the case or screen. I primarily used the MacBook in office or home environments. My only "fault" was using it daily for work, which is exactly what it was intended for.
While I understand this platform cannot resolve my issue if the service center refuses to acknowledge the problem, I hope my experience encourages the company to review its product quality control.
Given the high cost of electronics and the relatively low wages, replacing this computer would mean working for another year or taking out a loan. After this experience, I’m no longer sure I would choose Apple again.
Thank you 🇺🇦
