Where and how do I position my iPhone 14 to count stairs steps?

To the best of my knowledge, it doesn't really matter. The iPhone calculates how many stairs you've climbed by the elevation change as indicated by the accelerometer and the barometer, and where you keep your iPhone won't affect those measurements (unless the iPhone would be in a sealed pouch or something). Note that because of this, if you take an elevator it may still register as you having climbed those equivalent stairs.
