I bought AirPods Pro 2 from Walmart in october 2024,I hooked them up to my iPhone 8 and its is acting weird

I hooked them up to my iPhone 8 so i can listen to music and it keeps saying i need to update my phone to get all features but my iPhone doesn’t go past ios16.7 in settings it says the model name is ACCESSORY_MODEL_NAME_36 it also shows the icon as normal headphones and the sound quality is worse than my 2year old airpods i dont know of i should return them and order airpods from apple or deal with it
