Attention Aware Features silences alarms if you look at your phone

I’ve been bit by this bug/feature a few times. I didn’t realize the cause was “Attention Aware Features” until today. If this is enabled in FaceID and Passcode settings it mostly does good things like not dim the display if you are looking at your phone, and not expand notifications if you aren’t. But it also causes alarms to silence, and silence from then on, if you groggily pick up and look at your phone while it is going off.

This is an atrocious bug/feature. Surely they didn’t intend this. I’ve since learned it’s been around for years. Come on Apple, fix it!

I don’t know if Apple even watches these forums, but in case they do I created this post.

Apple does NOT monitor these user to user only forums. I don't agree with you this is an atrocious feature, however. If a notification or alarm comes in and you look at your phone, the volume is reduced, which for me is a GREAT feature. You of course, don't have to use it if it doesn't work well for you.

There is no way it makes sense to silence the alarm and not stop silencing it. I’ve woken up an hour later and the alarm is “going off”, but not making a sound. If it was a snooze instead of permanent silence, that might be a good feature, but it’s not that.

also you can only stop it from doing this by also turning off good features too, like not dimming the display if you are looking at it. If they had a list of the features and let you disable them individually, then that would be ok, but this alarm part is not a good idea to begin with.
