iPhone 16 pro flashes the unlock keypad screen and the slide to turn off screen for a second with no allowance to do anything. Hello brick. Apple support has no ideas! iPhone scorching hot. I'm hoping the battery drains before it burns up.
Anybody else having this issue?
If the phone is "scorching hot" and you only see an image on the screen for a couple of seconds before the screen goes blank at an unexpected time, that suggests a hardware issue. Maybe involving a bad battery, or an issue that could cause the battery to go bad.
Stop using the phone until you can get it replaced by Apple, or seen by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You may also want to store it someplace where it cannot easily start a fire (if the worst happens).

I was able to figure it out and restore it. The issue I had was that I didn't realize you had to keep holding the power button while the phone was booting up until it went into recovery mode. So it was hit volume up, then hit volume down, then press and keep holding the power button through the restart until it goes into recovery mode. Most people probably know that, but I don't think I have had to boot into recovery mode before, so I figured I would mention it.
The solution was this:
Put iPhone into recovery mode and performing a restore on the device. However, I ran into another problem when trying this out at home where the phone failed to restore and cause it to be stuck in recovery mode. So I made a genius bar appointment and they did the same thing but it actually worked.
Apple Support should be sending you a replacement phone. Are they?
The same thing happened to me. New iPhone 16 Pro, I tried setting up and during the process it tried to update 3 times failing to verify the update each time. I tried restarting it and now it just boots to a hello screen that swiping up shows the pin for about a second. There also seems to be no way to get it into recovery mode. Very frustrating with a night wasted and no solution!
