MacBook Pro 13' Flickering Screen when display tilted more than 30-45 Degrees

If the physical movement of the Display Assembly causes problems, then you have a hardware issue with the laptop's built-in Display Assembly. The Display Cable on this model has a design/manufacturing flaw, but Apple only acknowledged the issue with the MacBook Pro 13" (2016) model even though the 2017 model has the same flaw. Or it could be some other hardware issue with the Display Assembly, but the 40º angle typically indicates the defective display cable issue.

The Display Assembly is a very expensive part. I personally do not recommend repairing any of the 2016-2020 Intel Macs for a number of reasons (Display issues, butterfly keyboard issues, worn USB-C ports, and the Battery most likely needs to be replaced (Battery $250 US), and laptop is considered "Vintage" with Ventura being the last supported OS which will stop receiving security updates & support by the end of 2025.

Connect the laptop to an external display if you wish to continue using the laptop.

The money spent on repairs is better put towards a new laptop.

Screen Issues on a 2017 MBP:

My 2017 MBP's screen began to Flicker, and I had to send it in for service 11 times. It all ended up being deemed a faulty device, and Apple provided me with a new Mac, with a free upgrade, being so patient, and having spent over 100 hours troubleshooting this over-the-phone. It was simply a loose connection between the LogicBoard and the display.

Do you Have AppleCare?:

Being of obsolescence, is this is covered by AppleCare(which my own 2018 MBP is),I would go through Apple first. If that is of no help, then I would take it to an AASP.

If you do not have AppleCare, then taking it to an AASP is best.
