Is ProMotion ever gonna get fixed?

So, I've been thinking about making this post about the ProMotion technology of the iPhone, because I feel like not enough people or even tech reviewers talk about this issue, and I think that this is making Apple not even consider resolving this issue.

Since I got the iPhone 14 Pro Max coming from an iPhone 12, one of the things that I was more excited about was the high refresh rate, but after like 2 or 3 days of using it, I noticed a strange behavior or "aberration" that I got from scrolling on Twitter or on another app that had a dark background with white text. When scrolling, the white text gets kind of "stretched" and "stuttered" for a fraction of a second and, at the end of the scroll animation, it gets a little jump.

So, from all I could research, it comes from a weird implementation of the VRR technology, where almost all the time the refresh rate tops at 80Hz and gets to 120Hz in a (very) few situations.

I've been on the iPhone for years and with the 14 Pro Max for more than a year. I'm really considering switching to an android phone because I feel I'm having the lagging experience that I once had with androids of "old age", and I think this is really unacceptable for a flagship phone.

I tried using the 15 and 16 Pro, and it has the same problems.

Do you notice this problem as well?

Do you think that Apple will ever resolve this in future phones or even with a software update for the current generation?

I have Apple One, Apple Watch, Airpods, Mac, etc... I'm deep in the ecossistem, but this makes me really angry and I've been considering moving to an Android because of this...

This video is in slow motion and I think it shows what I'm talking about:

Yes of course Apple doesn't own 3rd party apps, but you can notice this issue using Apple's own apps like the weather app, Fitness+ app or even in the settings.

I could make a video showing the Fitness+ app and you'd see that happens the same thing.

Try and go to the Control Center on the iOS 18, then go and add a new control and try to scroll on the list that is showed. Is it stutter free? Because mine is not.

Go to the Fitness+ App and scroll through the list; it's laggy and the weird aberration that I talked about before happens as well. That's what I did on the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro to have an idea if this was fixed and it was not.

Another thing that I did was talk with an Apple technician from my area, and he said exactly what I said earlier (it was a weird implementation of the VRR from Apple that created this strange behavior).

So I'm asking, if the ProMotion is not broken, why is this happening?

You are making a broad assumption that Pro Motion is broken, which it's not. I don't like nor use Twitter, so I can't comment in that. But no, I have no issues with promotion. If you are however, using 3rd party apps, it's NOT an Apple issue, it is with the 3rd party app, so contact the app developers of these apps if you think it's not working well within their app. Apple doesn't own 3rd party apps, so they have no control over the code in them.

I concur with LobsterGhost; I'm not seeing any problems with scrolling either in Weather, Fitness+ or in Control Center on my iPhone 16 Pro. So this is not a universal problem, at any rate. It may be something that appears only in certain models, perhaps country-related, or it's an issue with something with your specific devices though I can't think what would cause that on multiple phones absent some sort of commonaility such as a VPN, anti-virus or jailbreaking.

Regards.
