When I try to export a Pages file as a Word file on my MacBook, it ends up saving as a .png. Any thoughts?

This is something that I do frequently as I do not have MS Office for Mac installed. I thought it had something to do with the upgrade to MacOS Sequoia. But then I read that people had the same problem over a year ago. I tried the suggestions on the Apple site about booting to safe mode, but that didn't change anything. Exporting to RTF still works and has upset the people I share docs with but they get what they need. I would rather find a solution. Any new suggestions would be most welcome.

Here is a previous post regarding Pages exporting to .docx and producing .png images. The cause of this export issue was neither explainable nor resolved within 2.5 hours on the phone with Apple Support. Ultimately, the originator of that post had to reinstall Sequoia and restore from a backup before the problem was solved.

I use Pages v14.2 on Sequoia v15.0.1 and could not reproduce this export behavior to an image when requesting Word.

In Pages: File -> Export To -> Word...

Not what you want to hear but it works for me on Sequoia. Try creating a new user account on the Mac, login to this test account test Pages exporting to Word. Send the Word DOCX file to someone with Microsoft Word to verify it is working. I have 365, it's working perfectly for me even with rather complex Word documents.
