Unable to make the '@‘ sign. using Option + L

Hi Apple Community,

My keyboard input has both English and German and for the longest time ive been using it as is without any problems. However, recently I've attempted to type the '@' sign by using option + L which has always worked, but no longer is. I have discovered that I can however type the '@‘ sign by pasting it or using Option + Q.

I would like to use it the original way, if anyone could please suggest how to solve this riddle, that would be great.
