Why is my iCloud password visible when I change it?

Whenever I try to create a password for the first time or change my password, the screen does not hide it. There is a yellow bar over the password field revealing the password. This happens even with the eye symbol with a line across it. No matter the app or website I use, the same thing happens across them all! This issue is happening with all my devices even after a clean reinstall! Is it a security problem? Have I been hacked? I’ve called apple assistance and they don’t know how to help.

Hi LaynLan,

Thank you for your answer! I have also done further research and have come across further inconsistencies. The device was reset to factory settings in the Apple store. Despite this, the error still persists. I noticed that I had two identical PDF files with two different file sizes in the cloud. I emptied the cloud and it is no longer connected to the device.

I have analysed the analytics data and there seem to be hardware and software issues on the device. For example, a CPU usage of 98% percent and low memory. This doesn't seem to make much sense immediately after a factory reset. Someone had tried to hack the iCloud. However, this attempt had failed. A support employee noticed that MDM profiles had been created on my device. He helped me to remove them. Before the removal, error messages were suppressed and I could no longer click on some security settings. My Norton antivirus is still causing problems. My Google and smartphone accounts were also attacked. I changed all passwords and reinstalled everything.

Answering your question: I can't really see the icons. Question marks are displayed instead. I have disabled the autofill option. How did you scan the iCloud? Have you enabled the option „Share iPad analysis“? If so, the analysis is sent to the Apple developers anonymously. This way, they see what‘s going on on your system.

Have a great day!

Hi LaynLan,

I have the same issue. My passwords are permanently visible. This occured after the security update 18.1.1. I contacted the support and as it seems, the system has been compromised .There were other problems as well. My antivirus stopped working properly (message: service not available). I had a malware infection on other systems at the same time. So I assume it is possible, that an infected file (pdf or Word) that was transferred via the Google synchronisation might have infected the IPad. But I am far from sure. This error didn’t even vanish after a complete reset and deleting all iCloud files. Could you finally resolve the issue?

Hi Ina-Mar,

This is a serious security issue and Apple is just not doing anything to sort it out and to ensure users are safe. I've been contacting the Apple Customer Support for the last 2 months but they seem not to care at all. I have done factor resets on my Mac and Iphone, went to an Apple Store to have the firmware refreshed and the same issues just carry on re-appearing. Apple Support promises to follow up, they request files form the machine but do not forward them to the engineers, they don't call back when they promise to do so... I feel they just want the easy job but dont want to really look at the issues. Two days ago I had someone looking at my MacBook and the lady was trying to convince me that this is impossible for a Mac to be hacked and she was a "Senior Apple adviser"... its like they are just repeating a bunch of stuff they hear during their training and ignore the amount of research available that says the opposite. Anyway, she scanned my machine with Malwarebites and nothing was captured. I asked her to follow up on the Data Capture file her colleague had taken from my Mac and had promised me to send it to the engineers to investigate but he didn't honour his words, he also didn't call me back as promised. She refused to follow up saying that she would need more evidence that my Mac was compromised... today I downloaded and run Norton anti malware - guess what!? It detected a Trojan inside my icloud folder! Somebody also used my credit card online, I have warning telling me there is suspicious activities on my network, and google send me alerts saying that someone is trying to access my accounts even after I change their passwords, system settings settings change on their own and Apple still say they need more evidence to have a look at the firmware of my MacBook!

What do you see if you go to system settings and type autofill & passwords? How do the icons look like?
