Unable to change Apple Account password due to 'continue on a separate device' loop

When I received a security notification about a compromised password, I went in and followed the steps that reset my password, well after I entered the old password, and entered my new password word twice, I clicked change password.. and then a little widow pops up and says to continue on a separate device.. and it goes nowhere.. and I can’t change my password because of this new continue on another device puts me into the repeat loop that never ends! How do I get my password changed?

Here’s what you can try:

  1. Use a different trusted Apple device (like your iPhone or iPad) where you're signed in — go to Settings > Apple ID > Password & Security > Change Password.
  2. If that doesn’t work, sign out of iCloud on your Mac, restart, and try again.
  3. Or use https://iforgot.apple.com from any browser — that lets you reset the password outside of the device loop.
  4. Still stuck? Contact Apple Support directly — they can verify your identity and help reset it manually.
