Sharing a video clip taken from my security camera system

I have an ANNKE DVR “N48PAW” and when using my IPad Pro to attempt to EMail a security video clip, the file transmitted is in a “quick time movie” format.

This then requires me to convert this file using a third party software to enable it to be viewed, ANNKE claim it to be an APPLE related issue.

Anyone have any thoughts? Please

iPad Pro, iPadOS 17

iOS/iPadOS doesn't natively support QuickTime movie format. QuickTime has been discontinued across most (if not all) modern computing platforms, it largely being replaced by MPEG4 and other video standards.

If you need a player App that can play QuickTime movies, consider VLC Media Player:

On your iPad the only included way to view a video (unless I've missed something) is in the Photos app which has limited format support; only H.264 video, I believe. So this is not a "QuickTime" issue as such but rather that the video from your security system apparently encodes the video in a standard format but one that the iPad just doesn't natively support. Hence the need for a third-party app. The same would most likely apply to an Android device; a third-party app will probably be needed to play the format.

Regards.

Thank you Lotus Pilot,

You have clarified in one paragraph, what ANNKE has skirted around and camouflaged their responses to me, for over a month, so THANK YOU.

VLC is currently the software I have been using, but I find it nauseating to have to do this (and also I’m sure the recipient of my emails) so please excuse my ignorance, is ANNKE then responsible for using quick time format?

Obviously I can view my security cameras in both real time and recorded time, it’s only when I attempt to send a clip of the recordings to anyone that I encounter these issues, which ANNKE alluded to being my IPad being the problem.

I certainly don’t have a requirement for quick time.

Thanks again Lotus Pilot, for your response and guidance.

Thank You varjak paw,

I believe they are on android phones.

To further explain, i initially sent a security video clip to myself as a test, this was on my IPAD PRO.This was when i encountered the “quick time” format, necessitating the third party software “VLC”.

To be fair it does what it says on the box and enables viewing the content. But I then wondered how on earth any recipient of my Email would view its contents - god forbid - if a security breach occurred.

ANNKE attempted to assist me with various procedures, all to no avail.

So this was when i reached out, in an attempt to discover if I could in some way reconfigure any settings.

Thank you once again for your help, varjak paw.

I think my last post got lost there but I will attempt again,

varjak paw, you are a breath of fresh air.

Honestly, your depth of knowledge and ability at explaining things is superb.

i have now got a handle on the issue.

Thank you so much for your input, and taking the time to consider my problem then making my understanding a whole lot easier.

We need more “varjak paw’s” please.
