final cut pro libraries

I am trying to open an FCP file and it keeps giving me this error message:

The document “KALAK ENG SUBTITLES” could not be opened. One or more of the libraries were created with a newer version of Final Cut Pro. These libraries will be ignored.

How do I solve this problem? My FCP is version 10.6.5 - and I am not given the option of updating.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.4

The message is probably accurate. Did you receive this library from someone else? Confirm with that person which version was used.

Since you cannot update past 10.6.5, a solution may involve using XML.

This works best if the media is separate from the library.

Ask the person to give you the media, and export an xml in the oldest version supported by their FCP. The current version, 10.8.1, can export XML v1.10, which is the version compatible with FCP 10.6.5.

Do you know why I'm not offered an update past 10.6.5.

Probably because you are running macOS 11 Big Sur.

For this OS, 10.6.5 is the last version that is supported.

Depending on your mac model and year, you may be able to upgrade the OS and, then, update to a newer version of FCP.

Do NOT upgrade the OS (assuming it is possible) without having an up to date Time Machine backup.
