Ok my issue is resolved! After trying all the “delete mail app”, “delete mail account”, add the “/“, and other supposed remedies, it turns out to be something much more simple! Just go into the folders view of the mail app and click on “Edit” in the upper right corner then click on “Add Mailbox” at the bottom of your mailbox list and you will find all your subfolders. You have to click on each and every one for each mail account and then click done. Next, force close the app (swipe up). Then just be patient and let everything load. It took me about 30 mins and now all my subfolders are back!

Email issues after updating to iOS 18.1.1 on iphone 14 and ipad air 5th gen:

  • no syncing between devices; f.i. deleted mails on ipad are not deleted on iphone and vv.
  • no threading anymore
  • @icloud sent folder on ipad doesn't show mails sent since update
  • icloud sent folder on iphone lists previews, but these 'cannot be displayed because the way it is formatted'
  • junk folder from second account disappeared on iphone ( not on ipad)

I tried a few 'fixes' as mentioned in several posts, but nothing helps

Back to iOS 17.x is not (easily) possible

so.... waiting for Apple's fix.....

Is there any update from Apple regarding this?

I have followed every single possible update/suggestion in this thread and others to retrieve the emails in my IMAP (AOL) account subfolders (which still exist when logged into AOL via web and via PC email client) on my iPhone (12 Mini) mail app to no avail.

I have removed and added the email account in question multiple times,

I have re-entered the password

I have adjusted every !@#$ server setting (including the IMAP Path Prefix),

I have deleted and re-installed the Mail app,

I have used the Add Mailbox function (which is stupidly hard to find)

I have Fetch set to 'Push - Automatically'

The subfolders that are available on my IMAP account do display when using Add Mailbox (so I know that the app is connecting), checking them off causes the folder name to display in the folders list, but no amount of fiddling retrieves any messages that are located in these subfolders.

I've spent hours of my life trying to fix something that should be basic and WORKED PERFECTLY FINE before. And I'm very very frustrated.

Another 'issue' discovered:

Mails in trash bin cannot be read anymore. iCloud mail as well as third party mail.

When I open such a mail, this message appears:

"This message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program.

multipart/alternative"

...still waiting for Apple's fix...

...feels like waiting for Godot...

18.1.1, updated 3 days ago.

iphone se3. neither iphone nor icloud have space limitations. email is microsoft outlook from my institution.

none of these 'fixes' fix the slow email update problem. if i click on an email to open, it takes minutes to open.

calendar appintments do not update. i have NOT synced contacts on purpose; i have no need for apple to know my institutional contact list (even though they/you probably do).

i *suspect* that a privacy setting is bothering the new demands from ios, but i con't know that.

since i'm not fully committed to the apple ecosystyem, maybe it's time to go android/google?

apple -please provide cogent reply

Hello everyone!

Many of you are angry at Apple about this, but bugs like this (and many even worse) happen to software all the time. I, speaking as a software developer, know that sometimes these issues seem to come out of nowhere.

Also, commenting on here will not help because Apple does not read these posts. This community is simply for fellow Apple users to assist each other. If you want this issue fixed, you must tell Apple directly by simply submitting a bug report on the Apple feedback page.
