Scammers can intercept a call and appear like who you originally dialed?

Was talking to PNC bank and the rep said scammers can now actually “ intercept” a call you make, say to a bank, and then answer it pretending to be the place you originally meant to call in the hope you give them some

info they can use. Any body experience this?

Typically, things work like this:

Scammers send you an email or text that appears to be from your bank to inform you that they have "detected suspicious activity" on your account and you need to call or click on the link to make sure that your account is safe.

The link or phone number is not your bank's.....It goes to the scammers who tell you that you need to first "verify" that you have an account at the bank. They ask for your log on information, etc., so they now have everything they need to access your account.

If you need to contact your bank online, make sure that you are going to bank's website......not clicking on a link in a message or email.
