Why is my iOS 18.1 hearing test unable to classify results?

I am getting the same response, (unable to classify) in doing the test. I have tried multiple times in very quiet spots. Failure to even turn on the hearing aid capabilities. I also find all the instructions and options under the hearing aid section confusing with too many choices none of which make particular sense to me.

I’ved tried 8 times - 5 on my phone and 3 on my ipad in my quiet room. Everytime it says unable to classify. What should you noise control setting be on and does breathing through our nose effect the background noise?

It is very frustrating and my finger is tired.

I’ve been experiencing this too, it’s incredibly frustrating. My sense is that the apple research team didn’t do enough preparation to know how to classify complex hearing profiles, such as mine (perhaps many of you on here too?), and so have nothing useful or accurate to share why the test keeps failing, but who knows.

and yes, I bought the AirPods too specifically for the hearing aid function so this feels like a total waste all around. Anyone have any success? I tried the test six times to no avail. Mimi app won’t recognize my AirPods.

Same here. Tried multiple times. Super quiet room. All windows closed.

Very frustrating.

Really terrible software. First it tells me the environment is quiet enough. Then if it is hearing a noise, it doesn't stop right there but goes on for minutes only to fail in the end.

Finally completed the hearing test, feeling lucky. Now I’m trying to figure out how to make adjustments. Good luck.

I am having the same issues with the test

perhaps my hearing is so bad that the algorithm for the test parameters have been exceeded and the default is to error out

The hearing test worked for me but it did not alter what I heard through the AirPods, that is, it had no effect.

Has anyone been able to work?

Tried it many times with only one success; very disappointing.

I am having the same issue, it is frustrating that if you get the left ear test but not the right it doesn’t save the results and so you have to start over again.

I have tested various times with the right ear stating Unable to classify due to background noise that your level of hearing loss cannot be classified accurately.
