Reject trade-in offer then take to store to evaluate computer

I started a trade-in for my 2016 MacBook pro to upgrade to a new 2023 MacBook pro. My quote was $160 for the trade-in. Much to my dismay, the company that evaluated my machine came back with an offer of $0. They claim there is damage to the screen, burn-in marks, etc. This is a lie. I photographed and videoed the machine before shipping and there was no damage to it. I feel like I have been lied to by both the company that accepts the trade-ins and Apple. I've talked with customer support three times and have not gotten a satisfying answer. Would I be able to cancel my trade-in by rejecting their offer and then take it to my local Apple store to be evaluated again? Has anyone else had this issue?

It looks like you should be able to get your 2016 MacBook Pro back by rejecting the offer of $0 and paying full price for the new MacBook Pro.

Whether Apple would then consider taking the old MacBook Pro as a trade-in is something I don't know. If they did, you would probably receive a gift card good towards future Apple purchases – not a refund of any money which you paid to purchase the new machine. But given that they have already offered you $0 for the old machine, I would not count on a retail Apple Store even offering you a gift card. They will probably offer only to recycle the old machine.

Apple Trade In - Apple

"If you’ve already sent us your device, the trade-in can’t be cancelled. However, if you receive a lower revised trade-in value after we’ve inspected your device, you can choose to reject it."

"If you reject it, we’ll cancel the trade-in, return your old device, and charge the original trade-in value to your card."
