How do you turn off "smart replies" for macOS/iOS Messages?

In the Apple Intelligence settings there is only on or off.

In Messages there is only a check box for "summarize messages."

Where is the setting to disable the AI "smart replies" in Messages?

It's awful and is driving me bonkers.

Thanks!

MacBook Air, macOS 15.1

This doesn't work, there is no No. 1 any more that you're indicating in your screen shot. This is not a thing in Sequoia. The only way I find to disable the infernal suggesting in messages is to turn off Apple Intelligence completely. It is SO annoying because I can't even use the simple function of hitting the RETURN key to send a message on my Mac without first clicking into the message field to dismiss the dumass auto text it wants me to choose. BAD BAD design, completely unacceptable for Apple to do this.

And where do you completely disable AI on iOS 18.1.3? See no reference to it. Google says "Then go to Apple Intelligence and Siri and you can toggle off Apple Intelligence. Simple. Problem is here is no such place, only "Siri" with no reference to AI.

My goal is to disable auto completion or auto reply to texts. It's making up stuff and sending that I did not intend.

I did the same thing: turn off Apple Intelligence. It's not too smart.

The screen that lupus_custos shows under Apple Intelligence in Settings does not appear on my MacBook Pro. I am using Sequoia 15.3.2. Is that a settings screen on iPhone? You have to state that. Instructions must be step-by-step from beginning to end with no ambiguity.

Apple designer/PM/BA/Whatever you call yourself, the text on the No.1 button (left of the "Siri Responses..." button) is just plain wrong. Clearly this label is intended for the button with the same text inside the popup window, to the left of the "Done" button. Please fix it.

Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. No one participating here can "fix it."

Doesn't Apple realize how insulting this is? When I'm talking with someone, I want to talk to them, not some sort of Turing Test bot. Imagine a text conversation where both sides are mindlessly firing off "Apple Intelligence" replies to each other. Even if the message is generally what I would say, the wording is unlikely exactly what I would say, and words matter.

There's no real "intelligence" in this AI. It's just mindlessly pattern-matching.
