Airpod pros claim to be connected to someone elses Apple ID

I am the original owner of my airpod pros, but when I connect to them sometimes, I get the "The owner of this item will be able to see its location" popup, and the apple ID provided is not my apple ID. I’ve tried resetting them, but I received the popup again. I’m not sure what to do and am concerned about security, because the other Apple ID account can view my location.

I actually can’t remember where I purchased them, but I bought them a few years ago (within the last 4). I wouls only purchase them from retailers like Walmart or Target, though. I’ve already been using them for years. Is there any way to completely reset them so that they are not connected to that strange Apple ID?

There is no way to reset them and separate them from the original owner. Only the person who set it up can disconnect it. You were sold a used set of AirPods. You are not the original owner no matter what that retailer may have told you. Sorry but there is no other explanation. If you want to verify my answer, you can contact Apple directly.
