Apple Pay tells me I have to walk into a bank to activate my new debit card has anyone else had this issue?

I just got a new debit card because the other one expired. At first it let me update it on the wallet and apple id.....it worked then I bought something else later and it delclined I called the bank they locked the card so they unlocked it. I deleted the old card put the new card in and it was ok at first then but now under apple pay it says its not activated. So when I called the digital wallet of my bank it said I have to walk in the bank to have the set the apple pay up. Has this happened to anyone before? Where they make you walk into the bank to activate apple pay?

Apple doesn’t approve or decline adding a card to Apple Wallet. Apple states so in several support articles and white papers. It’s your bank that requires your card to be activated or wants you to go to the bank to verify your identity.

Depending on what’s offered by the card issuer, the user may be able to choose between different options for additional verification, such as a text message, email, customer service call or a method in an approved third-party app to complete the verification. For text messages or email, the user selects from contact information the issuer has on file.


A code is sent, which must be entered into Apple Wallet, Settings or the Apple Watch

app. For customer service or verification using an app, the issuer performs their own communication process.

I can confirm that when I went to the bank today it somehow WORKED. I had the guy click verify in settings-apple wallet/pay JUST LIKE I HAVE BEEN DOING MYSELF and when he did it, it worked. No code no nothing. We are thinking maybe the phone had to recognize that I was inside the bank for it to confirm. ODD all around. He was just as confused as I was. He said you should get a code I said yeah no I only get the phone number. So hopefully its all resolved when payments get pulled today. I dont know, we will see.
